Heather: What are you noticing on the wall behind your bed? (Deardra had just hung a beautifully circular framed picture of a stylish shoe)

“Do you have any candy? I want my candy put on my tongue.”

(Heather:  No, I do not have any, but I’ll write it down and go to the store when I leave.)

“I want it now. I’m so sorry.  I didn’t want you to write it down. I’m so sorry.”

(That’s O.K. Mother.  I want to get the candy for you and the nurse told me of the best candy for you to have.)

Date of conversations not accurately recorded by Heather) Heather: Hello Mother.

28 July 2005

(date of conversation not accurately recorded) Deardra and Heather drove Mother to visit Luane, Audrey’s brother’s grandchild. Luane lives in the family home where Mother lived from age 12 when her parents sold the farm and moved the family to the Coventry house. Audrey listened attentively as I am sure this home brings back many wonderful memories. Later that afternoon Audrey spoke clearly:

“Heather, I want you to remember to keep our family peaceable. It has to be worked on.  I want you to make sure everybody stays friendly with each other.  I know you know and understand how things can get. It is sad to see how it can get.  You got to keep them all in line.”

Heather: Mother, you asked me to keep all the family in line? How can I help the family members? Let’s start with Vaughn. How can I help Vaughn?

“Vaughn, he’s the baby of the family.  I want to make sure he gets his place.  Don’t pamper. Keep him on a level ground.  He is very emotional.  More than the rest of the family.  Make sure he doesn’t get out of bounds with emotion.”

Heather: I agree with you, Mother. Vaughn is the one family member who does not mince words. He tells it like he sees it. There is no phoniness about Vaughn!

Heather: How could I help Deardra?

“Well, try to keep Deardra’s feet on ground.  She likes to shoot up.  She needs to keep her feet on the ground.”

Heather: How could I help Crystal?

“Ernie is very level headed.  He is a good husband for Crystal.  He keeps her where she belongs.  You can go along with that to make sure that is how she wants it.”

Heather: How could I help Dawn?

“Praise George as much as you can because he is very good to Dawn.”

Heather: How could I help Spencer?

“Be very good to his wife.  She is a very nice woman and Spencer deserves her.”

Heather: How about Doug?

“Doug is pretty steady himself.  I don’t worry too much about him.”
